Fans of Spider-Man, zombie games, or shooters in general owe it to themselves to play this overlooked gem. While not exactly the same, the traversal in Sunset Overdrive definitely helped shape Marvel's Spider-Man when it was released, and similar style and humor can also be felt in the game. Sunset Overdrive is set in a futuristic city during a zombie outbreak caused by a new energy drink flooding the market. It is also easy to see the influence it had on the studio going forward. Couple that with the title's charm, humor, and style, and the result is a truly unique and fantastic game. Then they can expend that charge for some close-range melee damage before clamoring back up buildings to build up another charge.īy making traversal a part of combat, Sunset Overdrive provides a gaming experience that is extremely addictive. This creates a fantastic feedback loop for the player that has them playing parkour to pick enemies off from above while building a charge.

By grinding, jumping, bouncing, and running on walls, the player builds up a charge meter that gives them different buffs and makes their attacks stronger. While running on the ground, the player's running speed and attack are abysmal, but that changes when the player bounces off a car or grinds on one of the many power lines throughout the city.

Rather than clinging to survival by scavenging and hoarding supplies, Sunset Overdrive actually forces verticality on the player.
